Great Value For A Great Axe Club Experience
A review of The Axe Club Lindora in Santa Ana, Costa Rica. Providing great value, with affordable axe throwing and no skimping on the experience

Review of The Axe Club Lindora, Santa Ana, Costa Rica
This was probably the best value axe throwing venue I have visited. At about £12 per person (Jan 2025), it was very affordable, but I’ve been to plenty of cheaper places that offer a very basic experience. The Axe Club provided a great experience too.
We went to the Lindora venue in the up and coming Santa Ana district, about 8 miles from San José. (There is also another venue in the Curridabat district on the other side of the capital.) The Lindora venue is located on a modern retail strip, amongst hot tub retailers and the like. My first impressions were that it felt a airy, open space as you entered, with a high double-storey ceiling. This was despite most of the downstairs space being taken up by six (single-target) throwing lanes, running from the left wall to the centre of the room. There was also a mezzanine floor towards the rear with more lanes upstairs. The viking style throne for photo-ops was also a nice feature in the reception area.
We were shown to our lane towards the rear. It was under the mezzanine floor, but the ceilings were still a good height and it didn’t feel confined at all. Our host did a reasonable job of an instruction and demonstration, although his style was to throw with considerable force to get it to stick (mostly effective, if unnecessary).
We were then left to get on with throwing as we liked. The axes were WATL professional throwing hatchets. Nicely balanced with weighty axe heads, so really no need to throw hard at all. The boards were not perfect, but were fine for us. They were certainly regularly watered. At least a couple of times during our hour-long session. The targets were the pre-2024 WATL targets, so we spent a productive hour taking it in turns to wrack up scores on our single target. Scoring was on a whiteboard on the side of the lane.
They do have projected games on a couple of the lanes, but only at night time, as the store front is all glass and too bright in the daytime.
There was also the option to throw a knife and shuriken, so we also had a bit of a play with them. This was included in the basic session price, which was a nice feature.
The one criticism I would have about the venue is that the throwing area is pretty confined, with effectively no spectator space. The throwing lanes were all side-by-side in a row along one wall. There was about 6ft or so behind the 12ft throwing line, in which to stand in to throw. Behind that was literally the wooden bar compactly fitted against the back wall, so if all the lanes were busy, there would be nowhere to stand that wasn’t in the throwing area. I assume if there are large groups in there, they have to be spread out along the lanes.

The bar looked great otherwise. It served a selection of soft drinks and beers from a fridge. The cold drinks were very much appreciated on a hot Costa Rican Friday afternoon. It was just a shame that there would be only space to throw or to order at the bar, not both at the same time (in safety anyway).
That said, as there was only two of us on our lane, and another couple on an adjacent lane, the lack of space didn’t impact our throwing, and overall the session was very enjoyable. It is a well run venue, with that kind of no-nonsense club-style vibe. Somewhere you could imagine dropping in weekly to throw, and, for the price, you could certainly afford to!
Pros
- Great value for money
- Good house axes
- Axe, knife and shuriken included in basic session
Cons
- Lack of space behind the thrower
